Odesa-based journalist Olena Solomonova rescued a dog that was wounded in the April 21 missile strike on the city.

She shared the story with the IMI representative in the Odesa oblast.

On that day, Olena Solomonova was covering the aftermath of the Russian missile strike on Odesa. The press officer on site told her that there was a wounded dog in the yard of a house.

The journalist said that the owners refused to treat the dog.

"They said they had no money. We took the dog from the shelled spot and carried it to a veterinary clinic. Five shrapnel fragments were found in his body, and he is having a surgery today (April 22. – Ed.). Volunteer Yana Tytarenko took it upon herself to raise money to save the animal. Many of my fellow journalists spread word about the campaign. I think the money we've raised so far will be enough to cover the operation," said Olena Solomonova.

The journalist also thanked the soldiers "who were not indifferent, the volunteers and my colleagues who supported us!"

On April 21, the Russian troops fired ballistic missiles at the oblast, as the Southern Defense Forces reported on Telegram. The enemy was targeting a logistics facility of the port infrastructure. The blast wave and missil fragments damaged the private houses nearby.

The attack injured four residents of an apartment building in Oleksandrivka village. The wounded dog's name is Hector, "Dumska" reports.

"Shrapnel from the missile pierced the dog's stomach, the's a few dogs near our house all the time. Hector was unlucky, I don't even know what to do with him, he should probably see a doctor," the woman told the media outlet.

It was later reported that Hector had been taken to a veterinary clinic, where the doctors discovered five shrapnel pieces in his body.
