Officer Oleksandr Vasyliev, who was killed in action, has been buried in Poltava, reports the city's website 0532.ua. Oleksandr was the father of the prominent local journalist Vitaliy Ulybin.

The wake for the officer took place on October 26 near the Assumption Cathedral in Poltava. A lot of people besides the deceased's relatives, friends and fellow servicepeople gathered in the church.

Sergeant Oleksandr Vasyliev was aged 51. In peacetime, he worked as a borehole driller, but with the start of the Russian invasion, he volunteered for the army, where he served as a border guard inspector.

He died on October 23 near Kurdyumivka in Donetsk oblast. Oleksandr was fatally wounded in a collision with a unit of Russian troops.

Vitaliy Ulybin, a well-known journalist and editor-in-chief of the "Poltavska Khvylia" outlet, is the son of the fallen officer.

Vitaly says that he had great respect for his father's decision to defend his homeland.

"With the beginning of the invasion, he immediately decided to go to the enlistment office and was one of the first to stand up and defnend the country. By March 16 he was already on the front line. On October 23, we were told that they came under mortar fire while performing a combat mission," Ulybin said.

The IMI team offers condolences to Vitaly and his family.
