Kremenchuk police says the anonymous website "Kremenchuk Today" is under investigation

19.01.2024, 16:28

The police of Kremenchuk (Poltava oblast) are investigating the local anonymous news resource "Kremenchuk Today" for alleged discreditation of the authorities.

This was mentioned by the head of the Kremenchuk district police department, Oleksandr Kholondovych, during his speech at the January 18 City Council session, reports "Kremenchutsky Telegraf".

According to Kremenchuk deputy Bohdan Lazorenko, in November 2023, the Avtozavodsky District Court of Kremenchuk city ruled to open a case over the activities of "Kremenchuk Today".

"It ("Kremenchuk Today") features the following headlines: 'Deputy Denys Tereshchenko is waiting for Putin's rule to begin', 'Deputy Oleksandr Rozhenko: budget embezzlement and funding terrorism', 'Kulynychi in Kremenchuk are under Hrytsenko's 'protection'', 'Russian mafia trace in Kremenchuk: Deputy Ivanyan's ties with the mob boss 'Grandpa Hasan' surface,'" Bohdan Lazorenko said.

Replying to the deputy who asked when the people working at "Kremenchuk Today" will be publicly identified, the head of the regional police department said that he could not disclose the details of the investigation at the moment.

Kremenchuk Mayor Vitaly Maletsky noted that the media field "needs some tidying up."

The editor-in-chief of "Kremenchutska Hazeta" (Poltava oblast), Oleh Bulashev, reported pressure by the website "Kremenchuk Today" on December 6, 2023. According to him, the website posts offensive and discrediting content about his journalistic work. On December 4, the website "Kremenchuk Today" published an article by Natalia Boyko, titled "Zhevago's media promote Putin lovers in Kremenchuk: the goal is to discredit the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the city authorities".

In the summer of 2023 "Kremenchuk Today" accused Bulashev of working for the enemy. Bulashev called the reports "lies and nonsense".

The IMI also reported that the confrontation between "Kremenchuk Today" and "Kremenchukska Hazeta" has been going on for a long time; there have been appeals to the Independent Media Council and the Mediacheck. The independent media examination showed violations of the Ukrainian Journalist's Code of Ethics by both websites.
